Fund Summaries
The Foundation has established several different fund categories to which donors may contribute.
School Funds:
Donations received will be utilized to provide resources within the schools and to assist with the costs of school activities. Each school operated by the UGDSB has a fund set up in its name and donors may direct their contribution to a specific school or schools. Donations received but not designated to a specific school will be allocated to the General Fund.
Freedom to Achieve Fund:
The Freedom to Achieve Fund is focused on providing underprivileged students with learning experiences outside the classroom. A gift to this fund will give students opportunities which they would not ordinarily have. These experiences will allow students to make connections to their in-school learning, enhance their desire to learn and help them reach their potential. With your help, we can ensure that each child is successful.
Donations for Special Contributions can be made through the Freedom To Achieve Fund. Please indicate what your donation is in "Honour of".
Scholarships, Awards & Endowments:
The Foundation can be used to establish scholarship funds and awards to ensure that resources are available for the continuing education and training of deserving students. These funds can be either specific to individual schools or system-wide.
Scholarship funds can be established in honour of, or in memory of, specific individuals, corporations or other organizations. Donations can be made directly or by planned giving such as a bequest through a will or a gift of life insurance. Anyone interested in establishing a scholarship should contact the principal/scholarship committee of the school that has been chosen to benefit (if school-specific) to decide an appropriate focus for the scholarship, then contact the Foundation for details and set-up. A one-time 5% fee is charged by the Foundation for the administration of new scholarships.
Awards are similar to scholarships but funds are submitted to the Foundation, usually on an annual basis, to be presented at commencements, graduations or other occasions. The Foundation issues cheques to the recipients and provides tax receipts to the donors. The Foundation considers these awards to be School funds, and processes these without cost to the donor or school.
Endowment funds may be established for long term support of schools or programs. These may be named in honour of, or in memory of, specific individuals, companies or organizations. Please contact the Foundation for information.
General Fund:
Donors may provide support for the Foundation and its area of greatest need by contributing to this fund. Schools may request access to these funds, when available, for special educational projects.
